No one sets out to be an Absalom, but many inadvertently follow his example and leave a lousy legacy.

That brings us to the fourth and final message in our “1 Life to Live” series—“Leaving a Legacy.”

Legacy:
– we all receive one from those who went before us
– we all leave one to those who come after us
– we create a legacy that will help or hinder the next generation
– the decisions we make today determine the legacy we leave tomorrow

But what kind of legacy will we leave?

Here’s one of the saddest verses in the Bible about leaving a legacy:
During his lifetime Absalom had taken a pillar and erected it in the King’s Valley as a monument to himself, for he thought, “I have no son to carry on the memory of my name.” He named the pillar after himself, and it is called Absalom’s Monument to this day.
2 Samuel 18:18

Absalom’s legacy was a pillar—a carved rock. What kind of man builds a stone monument to himself?

A quick look at Absalom answers that question:
– Absalom refused to forgive his brother (2 Samuel 13)
– Absalom refused to honor his father (2 Samuel 15)

People who can’t forgive peers and can’t honor fathers build stone monuments to self.

Sunday we will not only look at Absalom’s legacy of arrogance but also Saul’s legacy of insecurity and David’s legacy of. . .

You’ll have to wait ’til Sunday to hear about David’s legacy. I’m preaching at Victory Fort at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. and at Victory Greenhills at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. Hope to see you there, if not, then I’ll see you on the podcast.
