I tend to process most books I read through a discipleship grid.

While reading Coaching 101 I couldn’t help but apply the principles to our discipleship process. Here are some notes I scribbled in the margin. . .

– Discipleship IS Spiritual Partnership, NOT Spiritual Authority
Paul and Barnabas seemed to function in an evolving ministry relationship, not a set authority structure.

– Discipleship IS Smart Questions, NOT Smart Answers
Jesus often asked his disciples thought-provoking questions rather than giving them mind-numbing answers.

– Discipleship IS Sound Action, NOT Sound Advice
Jesus said, “follow me” (action) not listen to me (advice). Paul said “imitate” me (action) not listen to my podcast (advice). If the goal is to be a “doer of the word” then we must be people of action, not people who collect advice.

To be continued. . .
