I’ve been back from Africa for twenty-four hours. When I left Nashville a week ago the leaves were just beginning to turn. Now it looks like the whole city is on fire—bright red, orange, and yellow everywhere. Nothing like the colors of fall! Sorry for getting so excited about leaves, but this is only our second fall in 23 years.

Here are some highlights from my recent trip to South Africa:

  • Three full days of strategic planning in Cape Town with our ENLI Global Leadership Team. I am thankful to work with such a theologically astute and biblically grounded group. A few days with Bruce, Paul, and Greg makes me feel like a theological lightweight—I returned with a beautiful painting by my favorite African artist (and friend), Cristo Pretorius. It will soon be hanging in my home along with dozens of Jonathan’s masterpieces.
  • Quick trip to the top of Table Mountain. What a view!
  • Two days in Joburg with one of my favorite churches in the world, His People-Johannesburg. Every time I visit the Joburg church, I feel like I am back at home in our original church in Manila’s University-Belt.

We fly back to Manila in one week for our Every Nation IPC (International Policy Council) meeting and APEC (Asian Pastors’ Equipping Conference). I’m really looking forward to spending twenty hours with those friendly American flight attendants on NWA.
